ICHIZAWA SHINZABURO HANPU Trunk Show 8/19 – 8/27
Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu handmake everyday canvas bags for every day of your life. Each bag in produced in pairs. Led by an expert who is in charge of the sewing, he or she is paired with an apprentice who is charged with marking the material and attaching metal parts. It takes 10 years before an apprentice is given the responsibility of sewing a bag together so it comes at no surprise that these bags will be long lasting as well, revealing their rich history and unique character as you use them.
From August 19th to the 27th, the Tortoise Gallery will host a special Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu trunk show featuring a wide selection of over 30 styles, that outside of Kyoto, can only be purchased at this event.
Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu famously refrain from selling their products wholesale or online because they believe people should choose their bags in-person at their Kyoto store to find the one that suits them best. We are happy to welcome an Ichizawa Shinzaburo Hanpu craftsperson on the 19th and 20th to help kick-start this trunk show and and to lead simple demonstrations for Tortoise friends.
