Black Barc Trunk Show (2018SS collection)

Save the Date: April 6th & 7th Trunk Show
Black Barc Jewelry

Japan raised craftswoman Mizuki Tsurtaka founded Black Barc jewelry in 2010, followed by her brand 340, her brass home goods and accessory line in 2014.

Both brands were started in Los Angeles, where Mizuki learned her craft from a local teacher and developed a renewed appreciation for her heritage’s unique artisan tradition.  It was from this vantage post as an outsider experiencing her own culture’s tradition in a new city that Mizuki found her voice.

For more than 5 years now,  Tortoise General Store has carried Black Barc jewelry and finally we are thrilled to have Mizuki herself present a special trunk show at Tortoise (in Mar Vista) on Friday April 6th and Saturday 7th.

Mizuki has been known for her traditional ancient Japanese metalsmithing techniques like kiribame – a style of creating metal mosaic by fusing small cubes of brass, silver and copper together, or mokumegane – a way of joining metals with heat and pressure, creating organic wave patterns develop on the surface.

Her new collection coming this spring is inspired by the beauty of nature, as shown in the image above of her new ‘Ren Bracelet’.  Ren meaning ‘lotus bud’ in Japanese, showcases Mizuki’s beautiful metalwork technique that is both organic in feel and elegant in its simplicity.  This entirely new collection will be on view and available for purchase until April 14th.
