PP Blower – MOLD ALL
June 22, 2013 ~ July 20, 2013
Opening reception: Saturday, June 22, 2013 1pm ~ 4pm at Tortoise
Tortoise is pleased to present MOLD ALL, an exhibition by PP Blower, a glassware maker founded by Studio Prepa and Playmountain.
Studio Prepa is a glass blowing studio run by Katsuhisa and Mizuho Hira. Each ware / piece is designed with their detail-oriented sensibility, and then made with solid glass blowing skills. Working in their own studio rather than in a generic factory allows them to refine the smallest of details that they envision for their glassware. Simplicity, functionality, and their commitment to bring out the natural temperament of the material are at the core of their work.
Playmountain is a shop in Tokyo produced by Landscape Products that showcases unique furniture pieces and interior design objects. Each item, which is carefully selected, is distinct in character, but never imposes itself to the space it inhabits.
In 2007, a Studio Prepa and Playmountain collaboration founded PP Blower, a line of in-house-designed and hand-blown glassware. In the 6 years since its inception, they have been presenting numerous products / wares including the milk bottle and bottle lamp series. The exhibition MOLD ALL is based on the theme of, easily enough, molds. The glassware in this show are made using molds that have been derived from metal pipes, ceramic blocks, and other ready made objects and are blown in Studio Prepa’s studio. Rigorous trials and numerous errors are the result of optimum design and functionality in each piece and series they create.
Please join us at the opening reception on Saturday, June 22, 2013, 1 ~ 4pm at Tortoise.
